WSSD summit in Johannesburg The Alliance To End Childhood Lead Poisoning will be using the homepage of the Global Lead Network website, www.globalleadnet.org, to provide regular updates on the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) proceedings in Johannesburg relevant to phase-out and prevention. Visit the GLN website daily during the WSSD (August 26 - September 4, 2002) to guarantee that you stay informed!
New postings include the draft NGO Commentary on the UN Health plenary Session by Maria Rapuano (Alliance Staff member) and a summary and participants list from the first two Alliance-sponsored events, the Global Lead Network meeting on August 25th and the Global NGO Forum event - International Networking and Advocacy: The Global Lead Network.
Two events at the Summit where INCHES will be participating: An official Summit side event consisting of an interactive discussion with speakers on 'Health and the Environment in the 21st Century: Priorities and Action Strategies to Secure our Children's Future.' Topics to be addressed include linkages between health and the environment, the economic burden of ill-health related to environmental degradation and investing in children and the environment. A symposium on Health and Sustainable Development addressing topics such as investing in health for development, children's health and the environment and research partnerships. The first of the event's five sessions is a ministerial roundtable on the theme "Pushing back the frontiers of poverty." Four panel discussions will follow. Discussants will explore key policies and action strategies to address health and sustainable development issues. There will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.
